Glossary
Terms used across the Paqueterías (Carriers) section. When in doubt, come here first.
Business & Pricing Terms
Additional Charge (Cargo Adicional)
A surcharge that applies automatically when a shipment meets certain conditions (overweight, oversized, extended zone). You don't activate it per shipment — it fires on its own. Contrast with Additional Service.
Additional Service (Servicio Adicional)
An optional add-on that a customer or operator enables per shipment (insurance, signature confirmation). Unlike Additional Charges, these are opt-in. Both share the same configuration interface but differ in whether mandatory is true or false.
Base Cost (Costo Base)
The raw rate the carrier charges Envia for a shipment, before taxes and fuel surcharge are added. This is what you enter in the Operational Costs matrix.
Carrier (Paquetería)
The shipping company — FedEx, UPS, DHL, Estafeta, etc. In the UI, carriers are shown as #id + name. A carrier can have many services.
Custom Plan (Plan Custom)
A company-level assignment that points a client at a catalog plan type (or, in the legacy panel, a frozen private price list). Catalog-pointer assignments are applied in bulk from /carriers. See Bulk Custom Plans.
Default Rate (Tarifa por Defecto)
The plan type (Basic, Pro, Enterprise, Corporate, or Special) that is automatically assigned to a zone when no specific plan is negotiated. Set per zone in the Default Rates section.
Extended Zone (Zona Extendida)
A flat surcharge added to shipments destined for hard-to-reach delivery areas. Configured once in the Price Book and applied across all plan types.
Freight Discount (Descuento)
A percent taken off freight after the catalog or company plan price is calculated. Assigned globally on a service (optionally limited to plan types) or to one company on that service. It does not change the price book. Rate and generate apply it to freight only; generate stores the percent so overweight still uses the sold discount.
Flat Operator (Tarifa Fija)
A pricing method where the value you type is the final selling price charged to the client. No formula — what you enter is what the client pays.
Fuel Surcharge (Recargo de Combustible)
An additional cost added on top of the base carrier rate to account for fuel. Expressed as a percentage. Included in the Graduated Cost calculation.
Graduated Cost (Costo Graduado)
The real cost Envia pays per shipment. Used as the basis for margin calculations.
Graduated Cost = Base Cost + (Base Cost × Tax Rate) + (Base Cost × Fuel %)This is the number your margin indicators are always measured against — not just the raw carrier rate.
Margin (Margen)
What percentage of the selling price is profit.
Margin = (Price − Graduated Cost) / Price × 100Shown as the color-coded indicator in the Price Book. Thresholds: Red < 15% · Yellow 15–25% · Green > 25%.
Margin Operator (Operador Margen)
A pricing method where you enter a markup percentage instead of a fixed price. The system calculates the actual price as:
Price = Graduated Cost × (1 + Markup / 100)Useful when costs change often — prices update proportionally.
Markup (Sobreprecio)
How much you added on top of cost, as a percentage of cost.
Markup = (Price − Graduated Cost) / Graduated Cost × 100Same data as Margin, different formula. Use Margin when the question is "what share of the sale is profit?"; use Markup when the question is "how much did we add on top?"
Multi-Origin (Multiorigen)
A mode where a service has different cost matrices depending on the shipment's origin location (warehouse, region). When enabled, an origin selector appears above the cost matrix. Most services use basic (single-origin) mode.
Operational Costs (Costos Operativos)
The cost matrix you configure: zone × weight range → cost per zone/range. This is what Envia pays the carrier (before taxes and fuel). The source of truth for graduated cost and margin calculations.
Plan Type (Tipo de Plan)
One of five pricing tiers offered to clients. Each zone × weight cell in the Price Book has a separate price for each plan:

To create these tariffs, use the Price Book. To assign a catalog type to many companies, use Bulk Custom Plans.
Price Book (Tarifario de Precios)
The selling price matrix: zone × weight range → price, organized by plan type. What clients ultimately pay comes from here.
Service (Servicio)
A specific shipping product from a carrier — FedEx Ground, UPS Express, etc. Each service has its own cost/price configuration. Displayed as #id + name. The Carriers list shows carriers and their nested services.
Carriers List (/carriers)
The main screen of the section. A filterable tree table: one row per carrier, expandable rows for each service (status, delivery mode, shipment type, country, last update). Opened from the sidebar as Paqueterías.
Status (Estatus)
Whether a service is offered for new shipments. Activo = available. Inactivo = configuration preserved but not available to clients.
Tariff Operator (Operador de Tarifa)
The rule that determines how a price or charge is calculated. See Flat Operator and Margin Operator for the two most common. Additional Services support 19 operators.
Volumetric Weight (Peso Volumétrico)
The weight calculated from package dimensions instead of actual weight:
Volumetric Weight = (Length × Width × Height) / Volumetric FactorCarriers bill the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. The factor comes from the system catalog (e.g., 5000, 6000).
Zone (Zona)
A delivery area grouping used to differentiate prices by geography. Zones typically run from 1 to 8 (shorter distance = lower zone number = lower cost). Each column in the cost and price matrices represents a zone.
UI Terms
Additional Cost (Costo de servicio adicional)
What Envia pays (cost layer) for an optional additional service. Configured on the service page under Additional Costs. Distinct from the Additional Service selling price.
Surcharge Cost (Costo de cargo adicional)
What Envia pays (cost layer) for a mandatory additional charge. Configured next to Additional Costs on the service page.
Detalles (Details)
The action in the Acciones (Actions) column. On a carrier row it opens carrier configuration (/carriers/:id). On a service row it opens service configuration (/carriers/:id/service/:service).
Navigation Pills
Section selectors at the top of the carrier and service configuration pages. Carrier pills: Services, Volumetric, Actions, Print Formats, Tracking Mapping, Pickup Rules. Service pills: Taxes, Operational Costs, Pricing, Discounts, Volumetric Factor, Default Rates, Additional Services & Charges, Additional Costs.
Upgrade Pricing
A bulk recalculation tool in Operational Costs that recalculates all configured pricing matrices based on a percentage applied to the cost matrix. Use it when costs change and you need to adjust prices proportionally. Special can be enabled or left out of the upgrade.
